The box dates from mid 19th century and was probably made in France for the export market.
The counters are hand painted with decorative suited Queen on a green foreground.
Good condition throughout – picture will show the inevitable minor blemishes in such an article.

19th Century Mother of Pearl Whist Box with incised suit symbol counters
A set of Mother of Pearl Whist Counter housed in a matching MOP Circular Box with incised flowered patterns.
The box dates from mid 19th century and was probably made in France for the export market.
The counters are circular with incised suit signs – Diamonds, Hearts, Clubs and Spades

A set of Mother of Pearl Whist Counter housed in a matching MOP Circular Box with a central gold cartouche with engraved design.
The box dates from mid 19th century and would have been a premium item in the range of MOP Counter Boxes
The counters are circular with with 1,2,3 or 4 gold spots – used to score at Whist

Used in the last quarter of the nineteenth century for crafts, buttons, jewelry, and collectibles.
A very strong material which carved and machined well.
This is a box with a screw off top – housing four counters numbered, by way of club symbols, in an intriguing way, 1 to 4.
The counters are highly polished.
The carved top is flat.
The counters are 25mm in diameter and the box is 15 mm in height

19th Century Mother of Pearl Whist Box and hand painted rectangle counters
A set of Mother of Pearl Whist Counter housed in a matching MOP Oval Box with incised geometric patterns.
The box dates from mid 19th century and was probably made in France for the export market.
The complete unit is carved from one piece of Mother of Pearl with a carved out sarcophagus to house the counters. There is a sliding, functional, lid.
The counters are hand painted with decorative suited Queen on a green foreground.
Good condition throughout – picture will show the inevitable minor blemishes in such an article.
