It is apparent that many, probably smaller, Gentlemen's Gaming Clubs did not go to the expense of providing Gaming Counters peculiar to their establishment
They would have gone to tradesmen specialising in the sale of craft work in Ivory, Bone and other materials for their Gaming Counters.
There may have been a local cottage industry for this material such were the number of clubs popping up and closing quite quickly.
The downside of this approach that these plain Counters give no prestige to the Club and are easily forged and substituted into the play along with legitimate counters.
